A.E. Smith Building
Originally constructed between 1927 and 1930, this unique Art Deco building houses several New York State agencies. After 75 years of continuous use, even the granite and limestone façade couldn’t prevent this Albany landmark from requiring a complete renovation. Beginning in late 2002, virtually every component of the building, including structural floor slabs, mechanical/electrical, elevators, and telecommunication systems has undergone a complete modernization – including a painstaking restoration of the historic main lobby, first floor corridors, and meeting rooms.
Prominently seated at the north end of the Empire State Plaza, and adjacent to the New York State Capitol, the NYS Office of General Services contracted with many firms and individuals, including one of our partners, to contribute in the restoration of this one-of-a-kind building.
