VA Cemetery
New York State’s sixth national veteran’s cemetery, the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga
National Cemetery opened in 1999. Built near the historic Saratoga Battlefield, the buildings and grounds were designed to evoke the feeling of a Saratoga gentleman’s farm. Non-fruiting apple trees were planted in orchard rows between burial areas. Corinthian granite, limestone and lead coated copper roofs helped to establish a sense of permanence. Committal Shelters and an Information Center greet the public, while the administrative and maintenance needs are met in a complex designed to appear as a homestead with attached barns.
